Working with Shame: An EFT Master Class
By Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen
Friday & Saturday, April 27-28, 2018
An experiential, 2-day workshop designed for working with clients and couples dealing with significant amounts of shame.
This weekend with a internationally sought-after EFT trainer is advanced-EFT training that will review what you need to know to treat couples who present with significant amounts of shame, work with self-of-therapist issues that come up when working with shame, and increase your own shame resilience.
Shame, the unspeakable emotion, increases with couple distress and is often present but illusive in treatment. It tends to block couple therapists from organizing the elements of emotion that matter most to successful completion of the three changes processes of Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Recognizing, attuning to, and exploring this inherently disorganizing and hidden emotion is essential for treating couples, especially couples in high distress, with insecure childhood attachment, and those dealing with trauma.
This workshop is designed to help couple therapists identify and work with shame and the emotions it binds to. You will learn to help couples across the spectrum of distress, including the more difficult, complex and chaotic patterns, develop emotional balance and security. You will have opportunity to review and practice the EFT interventions most useful when partners are dealing with debilitating shame. You will learn to utilize the interventions that help sweethearts heal the shame that blocks them from receiving love and experience positive bonding.
This workshop will offer a mixture of didactic presentations, case discussion, viewing and discussion of clinical training tapes and experiential exercises.
- Understand the emotion of shame and it’s relevance in couple therapy.
- Be able to identify the pivotal moments to process shame, heal residual shame distress, and shape recovery.
- Define and practice specific interventions as they are refined to fit the needs of high shame couples.
- Use therapist/practitioner experience to identify, empathize with and attune to both secondary and primary shame.
“At last, we have a map for working with shame in couple relationships! I highly recommend Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen’s (Becca) gentle, supportive, and evidence-based approach to working with shame using EFT. It has been such an important piece for me to develop in my work with couples and with supervisees. The workshop provided the opportunity for me to understand shame and how shame can be functional and an essential primary emotion while also absorbing and often present in negative cycles with couples. The workshop provided me with important skills to identify and contain secondary shame and how to explore and transform primary shame. Becca also helped me explore my own experience of shame as a therapist and supervisor. So, if you’re working with couples, supervising couples’ therapists, or want to explore your own experience of shame, Becca’s workshop is just the thing!” Robert Allan, Certified EFT Therapist an Supervisor.
